Near my childhood home was a small park shaded by many eucalyptus trees. On the spur of a moment, my mother and her friend, Helen, would pack up us kids with a picnic lunch and head for the park. At 9 years old, I was “in love” with the boy across the street, Helen’s oldest son, so a picnic in the woods with my brother and Dick’s younger brother, Donny, was always a fun adventure.
I still love the muted gray color of eucalyptus leaves and remember the piney smell of the woods in the cool shade.
This pretty quilt was inspired by the beautiful fabrics, custom-printed from Spoonflower. The play of light and dark evoke the dappled rays of sunlight that filtered through the tall trees. The nostalgic tiny flowered fabric border and bit of white lace recall an earlier time.
