This contemporary folk art throw was inspired by the phrase used by German apparel and accessory designer, Esther Perbandt. I cheered as she continued to maintain her commitment to her own aesthetic in the face of criticism by judges of her work. It is often difficult for an artist to stay true to his/her inner expression rather than considering potential commercial value of their work.
My daughter gifted me with the necklace which features a fork/spoon/knife and the words, Hungry for Life. I love it for the message and for the thoughtful surprise gift from my daughter. Pictures of the necklace are embedded within the quilt.
The central fabric is cotton sateen by designer Hollyce Jeffriess. The bottom white border is the trim from my grandmother's damask tablecloth, nearly 100 years old. I have clear memories of being a little girl at holiday dinners set on this tablecloth.
Wrap up in the quilt and find your "seat at the table."
