One of a kind contemporarpy folk art.
The sewing machine in my workroom faces a window that looks out onto the street in front of my house. I was enjoying the mindless meditation of creating blocks of houses from some of the scraps of fabric that accumulate from other quilts.
As I was working on this quilt and had almost finished the blocks, I looked up and, impossibly, a deer was walking slowly and majestically down the middle of the street in front of my window. I know that there are a few families of deer in our neighborhood, but they usually stay in the remaining woods and by the stgreams that run though our development. A feeling of sadness and longing seemed to encircle her, and I felt it, too. Where do they go when the development of houses is all built out...in woods that used to be theirs.
In honor of that moment, I included a quilt block of one tree left with the shadow image of a deer.
