One of a kind contemporary folk art.
Polka dots and stripes seemed to be the right note for featuring this measuring tape ribbon that I found on one of my visits to the local fabric store. I loved it! My mother sewed most of my clothes when I was a little girl, and I have clear memories of her Singer sewing machine with the seam tape across the back of the chair. Her machine was in a cabinet and was controlled by a knee lever rather than a foot pedal, so I could begin sewing myself at a young age even though my feet didn’t quite reach the floor.
The polka dot fabrics in this quilt are a bit muted and as such have a youthful feel rather than a shouting boldness. I love the simplicity of the design, letting the measuring tape ribbon flow randomly across the quilt. It is held in place by over-sized retro buttons.
